First of all, small groups are biblical. One
of the first things Jesus did in his ministry on earth was to start a small
group (Mark 3:14-15). You will experience many things in a Christ centered small
group such as: having a place to talk about spiritual issues, experiencing the
life transforming power of prayer, receiving much needed support and
encouragement, being held accountable in your discipleship with Christ, reaching
out with love and compassion to those who have not received the grace of Christ,
fostering deep and lasting relationships rooted in the Holy Spirit, and
deepening your practical understanding of Holy Scripture. The list is long, but
not exhausted!
The Foundation of Small Groups at LCM
- Every group will spend some time in Bible Study
- Every group will engage in a ministry or mission
- Every group will spend some time in support and caring
- Every group will focus on witnessing the faith and outreach to those outside the group (e.g.
"the empty chair")
- Every group will spend time in prayer
How each of these foundational pieces will occur within a group will be determined by the
group and thus different from group to group.
Our objective in small group ministry is simple at Lutheran
Church of the Master. We seek to grow the true Church of Christ rooted in
Scripture, expressed through ministry and mission, given form through outreach
and caring, bold in witnessing the faith to others, and renewed through prayer.
Each group will covenant for no more than six months at
which time they will evaluate the life and future of their group. The group may
continue for another six months or for a shorter period of time prior to their
next evaluation. A group can chose to continue for 90 years if they
evaluate every six months. Every group is involved in Bible Study, prayer,
ministry, care and support, and the empty chair.
Take these basic elements to heart for they make up the
structure of all the small groups at Lutheran Church of the Master. Your
commitment and dedication to these tenets will benefit the life and health of
your small group and its members.
